Guang Tingbo, Man
nationality, was born in Dalin, Liaoning in 1938. He graduated from the
Oil Painting Department of Lu Xun Arts College in 1964. After the
Cultural Revolution, he began to work in Liaoning Provincial Gallery. He
was now living in America. His figure portrait was created in realistic
style, and this picture was a representative. It took him 3 years to
finish this work from conception, experiencing life, and painting. He got
rid of the archaic style of portraying the workers busily working before
the stove, but indirectly highlighted the theme by their sweating and
drinking movements, and other detailed descriptions. High quality steel
was created with the hard work from the workers. The painter portrayed a
head worker from the front. The fire light shows his strong body, from
brow, sweat and every detail, which strengthens his tough character, and
fighting spirit, and also makes the picture more real and strong in
visual effect. The stillness and movement contrast, and the cold and warm
color contrast all show his ingenuity. He uses propylene as color in this
picture. The picture is often displayed besides Father in National Art
Museum of China, which shows the new trend of fine arts creation in an
interesting way.
